A group led by a high-profile developer on Tuesday announced a proposal to build a horse track, hotel and casino in Wareham, Massachusetts.
If given the green light, the $300 million project would bring southeastern Massachusetts its first casino and thoroughbred racing back to Massachusetts after the closing of Suffolk Downs in 2014.
The proposal — led by Tom O’Connell, the Quincy developer behind the Marina Bay complex and the Granite Links golf club — was announced at a press conference in Quincy.
According to Notos Group, the development group behind the proposal, the facility would be built on a 275-acre parcel off Glen Charlie Road just north of Route 25.
The facility would also include restaurants, entertainment venues and a sports field complex.
The group said in a press release that it would “ask the Legislature to give the Massachusetts Gaming Commission the discretion to approve a gaming facility that reflects current market realities.”

Notos Group projected that the complex would reap $5 million in annual revenue for Wareham and proved more than 1,000 permanent jobs.
Elaine Driscoll, director of communications for the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, told NBC10 Boston that the commission did not have an opinion about the proposal as of Tuesday.
