A Massachusetts high school student is being accused of threatening to shoot up a school on social media.
The Haverhill High School student, a male juvenile who was not named by police, is scheduled to be arraigned in Lawrence Juvenile Court on Friday on a threatening charge.
Haverhill police said they were informed of the social media post by Methuen police, who were tipped off by a concerned parent and discovered the post came from near Haverhill High School.
According to police, the juvenile suspect had written on an unidentified social media platform: "fed up, school shooting tomorrow."
Both Haverhill and Methuen police were able to find the teen in the early morning hours of Friday and arrested him at a home in Haverhill.
In a statement, Haverhill police Detective Robert Pistone said it is not believed that the student "had the means" to shoot someone, but said authorities took the threat seriously because "it causes such widespread disruption and anxiety in literally thousands of people's lives in the affected communities."
