Hurricane Florence Blows Away North Texas Couple's Wedding Plans

Mark Cuban even covered the catering after a friend asked for help

Millions in the path of Hurricane Florence this week chose to leave for safer ground or ride out the storm.

Brendan McLean and Allison Miller were supposed to exchange vows Friday in Charleston, South Carolina, where they got engaged last November, but the city is now under a mandatory evacuation order.

So this week, they’ve scrambled to plan their wedding at home in Texas instead of on a Charleston plantation.

“We said Monday morning we'll wake up and say yes, or no, and that's when we started notifying our bridal party and all of our guests that we were going to cancel the wedding in Charleston,” Miller said.

But rain or shine, the couple said they're getting married. So, the day they've spent 10 months planning for — they had five days to plan.

“It's pretty ridiculous once you say it out loud,” Miller said, laughing.

The parents of the maid of honor provided the venue: the backyard of their new Plano home.

The tables, dishes and flowers were all donated. They say Mavericks owner Mark Cuban even covered the catering after a friend of the bride sent an email asking for help.

“We've been so overwhelmed by disappointment in the beginning, but then, the love and support of people, just sort of this outpouring from everywhere,” McLean said.

But perhaps most importantly, the dress made it back from South Carolina just in time for their wedding day, re-imagined thanks to Mother Nature.

The couple will exchange vows on Friday evening, rain or shine.
