1 Dead After Being Stabbed in Chest in Hyannis, DA Says

A person is dead after being stabbed in the chest Wednesday afternoon in Barnstable, Massachusetts.

Officers responded to the 330 block of Yarmouth Road in Hyannis, where the victim was stabbed around 1:30 p.m., police said. Officers searched for evidence late into the night Wednesday at a strip of businesses.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.

The suspect took off, and SWAT teams were called in for a search.

"We really didn't know what was going on," said neighbor Cheryl Freeman. "We didn't hear too many details."

Another neighbor says the suspect being on the loose overnight is very unsettling. He contacted police after a door to his home was found open.

"My wife was home and said the basement door was open, so my basement is pretty dark, so that's why I had the police go in and check," he said.

Eyewitnesses believe the two men got into a fight before the victim was killed.

Crime tape could be seen up near an auto repair shop. Glass on a door was broken.

The Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office didn't expect any more updates Wednesday night.
