Construction Worker Hit by Car on I-91 North in Middletown

A construction worker was hit by a car on Interstate 91 north in Middletown Wednesday and was taken to the hospital.

The state Department of Transportation said a contractor was doing guardrail work on I-91 in Middletown and one of the workers was laying out traffic cones and signs when he was hit by a car.

A news release from state police says the Atlas Construction Company was working in the left lane and two vehicles heading north on I-91 collided near the start of the construction zone and one of them struck 27-year-old Dillon Peterson, of Vernon. Peterson was transported to Hartford Hospital for what are believed to be serious injuries.

The driver who hit him was transported to Hartford Hospital to be evaluated. The other driver fled the scene, according to state police.

They said the vehicle that left the scene likely has moderate damage to the left driver’s side, wheel and tire.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call 860-534-1000.
