One person suffered life-threatening injuries in a 3-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Boxford, Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon.

Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a crash on I-95 south just north of Exit 52 in Boxford around 1:30 p.m. Callers said a vehicle that was headed northbound crossed the median and struck a vehicle that was driving southbound head on.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by a 54-year-old woman from Bradford, was traveling north on I-95 when it crossed the median into the southbound lanes, sideswiping a 2018 Nissan Altima driven by a 68-year-old man from Naples, Florida, and then struck a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by a 32-year-old man from Everett.

The driver of the Jeep sustained serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken by medical helicopter to Boston Medical Center.

The driver of the Toyota and a passenger in the Nissan sustained minor injuries and were taken to Beverly Hospital. The driver of the Nissan was not injured.

No names have been released by police.

The accident caused major delays, as both sides of the highway had to be shut down to allow the medical helicopter could land. All lanes reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
