ICE Seeks to Remove Stoughton Man Charged With Wife's Murder

Ilton Rodrigues, 48, entered a plea of not guilty to the murder of his wife, 43-year-old Telma Bras

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hopes to remove a Massachusetts man charged with the murder of his wife.

Forty-eight-year-old Ilton Rodrigues was ordered held without bail when he was arraigned from his hospital room Monday. He is accused of stabbing his wife, 43-year-old Telma Bras, to death Friday night at the couple's Stoughton home.

According to ICE, Rodrigues is a Brazilian citizen.

"ICE will seek his removal pending the outcome of the criminal charges he faces," a spokesperson for the agency said.

Rodrigues entered a plea of not guilty Monday.

According to the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office, Rodrigues allegedly stabbed his wife before trying to take his own life. The couple's 17-year-old daughter called a family member during the incident, who then called police.

Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Blair said when police arrived at the couple's Bennett Drive apartment at about 11:30 p.m., a knife was still protruding from his body.

Stoughton Police Chief Donna McNamara called the scene "extremely violent."

Authorities said neither the couple's teenage daughter nor their 7-year-old son were hurt.

Rodrigues was taken to Boston Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, where he underwent surgery overnight and remains in police custody.

The investigation is being handled by Stoughton police and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk District Attorney's Office.

Rodrigues is due in Stoughton District Court June 11. He is represented by attorney Joseph Krowski.
