Fate of Suspect in 95-Year-Old Man's Death in Hands of Jury

The jury in the trial of a Massachusetts man charged with killing a 95-year-old man and his 77-year-old wife during a home invasion has started deliberating.

The Recorder reports that the Franklin Superior Court jury weighing the fate of 25-year-old Joshua Hart began deliberations Thursday.

Hart is charged in the October 2016 killing of 95-year-old Thomas Harty in his Orange home. Hart's wife, Joanna Fisher, was severely injured and died several weeks later.

Hart, of Athol, faces two counts of murder and several other offenses. He has pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors say Hart and his girlfriend wanted to steal a car and money so they could leave Massachusetts and avoid charges in an unrelated case. His girlfriend faces trial later this month.

Hart's lawyer blamed the killings on the girlfriend.
