Kaepernick's Attorney: NFL Owners Were ‘Kowtowing' to Trump Over Player Protests

Kaepernick still wants to play in the NFL, the lawyer said after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said teams were welcome to hire him

Colin Kaepernick was kept out of the NFL by owners who colluded with each other in light of President Donald Trump's attacks on player protests during the national anthem, the quarterback's lawyer told NBC's TODAY.

NBC News reported that the interview came after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said at a Super Bowl news conference that any team can hire Kaepernick if they want to — a claim that former wide receiver Terrell Owens called a "flat out lie" on Twitter.

Kaepernick's lawyer, Mark Geragos, said that Kaepernick still wants to play in the NFL. He called the collusion between team owners "the NFL kowtowing to the president."

Player protests aren't expected at the Super Bowl on Sunday, though some black artists refused offers to be part of the halftime show on Kaepernick's behalf. Geragos denied that Kaepernick had given his blessing to halftime performer Travis Scott.
