Kerri Rose, Woman Who Inspired Local Brew, Dies of Cancer

A Virginia mom whose battle with cancer inspired the creation of a new local beer died over the weekend.

Kerri Rose's husband, Matt Rose, announced her death on a GoFundMe page Kerri created to support her fight.

"I can't express how much you all have meant to us," Matt Rose wrote. "Kerri loved your words and support so much."

Kerri learned she had stomach cancer last year while pregnant with the couple's first child. Because of the cancer, baby Lance was delivered early in September.

Matt Rose runs Forge Brew Works in Lorton, and when fellow brewers learned about what he and his wife were going through, they jumped in to help.

"It hit us pretty hard, and we're like, What can you do?" said Casey Jones, who owns Fair Winds Brewing. "So we immediately turned to, 'Let's do what we do well. Let's brew a beer.'"

Word went out, and 20 brewers answered the call, gathering to make "Kerri's Cure." Proceeds from the sale of the special batch of Belgian pale ale will go to the Rose family.

The special beer will be on tap Jan. 29 at these breweries:
