LeBron, Obama Among Most Retweeted of 2017

The year’s top tweets touched on many of the year's biggest news stories, including the Charlottesville protests, Hurricane Harvey and sports getting political

What do a former U.S. president, LeBron James and a guy with an insatiable appetite for chicken nuggets have in common? They all made the biggest splash on Twitter this year.

Twitter on Tuesday released its top trending people and topics for 2017, ranging from sports to politics to Korean boy bands.

The number one tweet came from Carter Wilkerson, who begged people to retweet him so that he could get a year's worth of free chicken nuggets from Wendy's. He fell short of the 18 million bar set by the fast-food chain, but Wendy's gave Wilkerson the nuggets anyway for the effort.

And while it's no secret that President Donald Trump loves to tweet — his 36,500 tweets have routinely made headlines since he decided to run for president — Twitter doesn’t seem to requite his love, as he didn't make the list.

But his predecessor did. Barack Obama came in second with 1.7 million retweets, and in fact, he took three of the top nine spots on the list.

The year’s top tweets touched on many of the year's biggest news stories, including the Charlottesville protests, Hurricane Harvey and sports getting political — which is where James came in.

The most popular posts were retweeted between 623,000 and 3.6 million times.
