Police say a Massachusetts man led officers on a chase with his 81-year-old grandmother in tow after he tried to take money out of her bank account Tuesday.
Twenty-seven-year-old Patrick Laubenstein of Randolph picked up his grandmother from her Milford nursing home. He allegedly drove her to Envision Bank on North Main Street, where an employee called police around 1:30 p.m. to report that he was in the drive-thru lane and trying to withdraw his grandmother's money.
The bank did not give Laubenstein the money. Police responded, but he had left. Officers caught up to him and he allegedly refused to stop, fleeing through Randolph onto Route 24 before heading north on Interstate 93.
When police realized Laubenstein's grandmother was in the vehicle, they called off the chase, ultimately finding he had driven to a home on Hilltop Road in Milton.
The resident at the house says Laubenstein, a friend he hadn't seen in six or seven months, called and said he was going to stop by. Shortly after Laubenstein arrived, he saw officers heading toward the house and took off running.
"When you came down, he took off like a bat out of hell out back, and I didn't know it," the resident recalled telling police. "Next thing I know, they're pulling him out of my house, and I guess he had to wrap his knee up, or his leg up, like he got all cut."
Laubenstein was arrested, and his grandmother was found unharmed outside the house.

Charges against Laubenstein include forgery, abusing or neglecting an elderly person, driving to endanger and failure to stop for police.
Laubenstein will be arraigned in Quincy District Court Wednesday. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
