Man Accused of ‘Viciously' Beating Dog at MBTA Stop

A Massachusetts man is facing charges after authorities say he beat his dog at an MBTA stop Tuesday evening in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood.

Michael Webb, 26, of Natick, is facing animal cruelty charges following his arrest by transit police at the Ashmont Station.

Transit police said they were called to the station at 6:45 p.m. for a report of a man beating his dog. When officers arrived, witnesses pointed out Webb who they say used his dog's leash to "viciously whip and beat the animal."

When the two officers approached Webb, he told them they would need more officers to take him into custody due to his size.

Additional officers responded and arrested Webb. While he was in custody, authorities discovered there was an arrest warrant out for Webb out of Boston Municipal Court for cruelty to animals.

The mixed breed dog named Coco was taken by the City of Boston Animal Control.

It's unclear when Webb will appear in court to face charges or if he has an attorney.
