VIDEO: Man Pulls Baby From Overturned Vehicle on I-95

The child appeared to be unharmed

NBC Universal, Inc.

Exclusive video shows a man pulling a baby girl from of an overturned car on Interstate 95 north in Sharon, Massachusetts around 3:30 Wednesday afternoon after the car crashed with a Massachusetts State Police SUV.

The man pulls the girl from her car seat, then runs around to the other side of the Honda Civic, where a woman also hung up in the wreckage had to be cut free by a state trooper.

The Sharon Fire Department represented one of several towns responding to the wreck, stressing the importance of car seats in rollovers like this.

"Car seats are very important," said Sharon Fire Lt. William Morrissey. "They're instrumental to keeping kids safe."

In this case, thankfully, no one was thrown from the car.

"It's just like a washing machine," Morrissey said. "I use the analogy, it's a washing machine, anything in the car rolls and rolls."

State police say the trooper had stopped another driver in the median. That car got back onto the road, and the Civic, driven by a 27-year-old man from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, approached without slowing down, according to police. The Civic swerved to avoid the cars, hitting the side of the police cruiser and rolling over.

The driver, a 28-year-old Pawtucket woman and a 1-year-old girl were all taken to Boston Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The fire department commended the quick-thinking man who instinctively pulled the little girl to safety.

"Today was great because all three victims were able to walk away from the incident, hopefully unscathed or with relatively minor injuries, and they can go home and see the rest of their families," Morrissey said.

The Sharon Fire Department also wants to remind people that municipalities will help install car seats for anyone who reaches out in need of help.
