Man Crushed by Own Car in Hartford Dies: Police

Police said he was unloading groceries from his car.

An 88-year-old Hartford man was killed when his car rolled back on him and pinned him under the back tire as he was unloading groceries on Monday afternoon, according to police. 

Police responded to 35-37 Merrill St, at 1:03 p.m. after learning a man was hit by a car and they found Esebio Coutinho in his driveway.

Police said his 1978 Ford Fairmont was still running when Coutinho was unloading groceries and he was pinned under a tire of the unoccupied vehicle in the driveway of his multi-family home.

Coutinho was rushed to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Hospital staff contacted Coutinho's family.
