Man Struck and Killed by MBTA Commuter Rail Train in Lawrence

A 49-year-old man was struck and killed by an MBTA Commuter Rail train in Lawrence, Massachusetts on Friday morning.

Lawrence police said they received a call shortly after 11 a.m. for a report of a person who had struck by a train in the area of 65 Merrimack St.

According to the Essex County District Attorney's office, the train clipped the legs of the Haverhill man who had been sitting on a platform next to the tracks.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Authorities said the train operator blew his whistle and used emergency brakes to avoid striking the man.

The accident investigation is being conducted by the Essex District Attorney's Office and MBTA Police.

Authorities said foul play is not suspected.
