Man's Death in Boston Police Custody Under Investigation

Authorities are investigating the death of a man in Boston police custody earlier this month.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office confirmed Thursday night that John Campbell, a 45-year-old Revere man, was found unresponsive in his cell on Sept. 7. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

Boston police said Campbell had been arrested the previous day on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. The case allegedly involved a knife.

According to the DA's office, an investigation by the medical examiner found no signs of physical trauma.

The cause of death is not known, but toxicology screenings are underway.

No further information was immediately available.
