A 14-month-old boy was killed after being run over in Mashpee, Massachusetts, on Friday night, according to police.
Mashpee Police said the boy was playing by a dumpster in the driveway of a home on Coombs Lane when he was struck by a pickup truck.
When officers arrived to the scene, they found the boy in critical condition. He was transported to Falmouth Hospital where he died of his injuries.
Police said there were adults in the driveway when the incident happened. It's unclear if the driver of the truck will face any charges.
Mashpee Chief of Police Scott W. Carline released a statement Saturday morning regarding the continuation of the investigation:
"These types of accident reconstruction investigations are extremely extensive. We also want to be sensitive to the family as we move forward with our investigation. I don't expect to release any further information until the entire report has been completed and we have consulted with the Cape and Islands District Attorney's Office," said Carline.
