A Massachusetts man has been indicted in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in Westford earlier this year, the district attorney said Wednesday.

Daniel Perras, 56, of Easthampton was arrested Wednesday in connection with the death of a 38-year-old Springfield woman whose body was found along Providence Road in Westford on February 2, the office of Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement.

According to the district attorney, Perras allegedly picked the woman up from her home and drove her to the Haverhill area. During the trip, the victim allegedly began to experience symptoms of a drug overdose and eventually became unresponsive and died, according to Ryan’s office.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the woman died from an overdose, the district attorney said.

Perras allegedly left the woman’s body on an embankment along the road after realizing she was dead. He then allegedly disposed of her personal belongings off the French King Bridge in Erving before returning to western Massachusetts.

"This defendant acted with complete disregard" for the woman, Ryan said, adding that he drove past a fire station where they could have received help.

Perras has been charged with improper disposal of a human body, destruction of evidence and being a habitual criminal. He was expected to be arraigned in the Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn, Wednesday.
