Overpass repair work caused major delays on the Massachusetts Turnpike after debris fell onto vehicles during the Thursday morning commute.
State police say all lanes have since been reopened on Interstate 90 eastbound at the Pleasant Street overpass in Framingham after crews completed immediate bridge repair work.
The temporary repairs slowed the morning commute down to a crawl for some.
"It was difficult. Very difficult," said one commuter.
MassDOT crews will close lanes again at a later point to complete the bridge repair work, according to state police; however, it's unclear when that will take place.
Some motorists said they waited in traffic for 20 minutes while others waited two hours, depending on where they were coming from or going.
"My dad's actually going to a pretty important medical appointment at Jamaica Plain so we're going to be a little bit late, unfortunately," said another motorist.

Drivers said they were not only annoyed with traffic delays but the conditions of the state's bridges and roads.
"All I would recommend, the taxpayers should make a note or send something to the state, just to say, 'hey, get it right this is not the Big Dig project again,'" said one man.
Debris was reported falling onto vehicles, which resulted in minor damage.
No injuries were reported.
