Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker signed a bill on Monday that extends unemployment benefits to the roughly 1,250 National Grid workers that have been locked out of their jobs.
Baker’s signature comes before workers and union leaders were set to visit the Massachusetts State House to urge the governor for his approval for the bill.
The hundreds of utility workers have been locked out since June amid a tense ongoing labor dispute. As of Monday, National Grid and union leaders have yet to agree on a contract for the company’s workers. Both sides had hoped that the monthslong lockout would have ended by Dec. 28.
