Search Underway for Man, Reported to Be From Mass., Near Hawaii Beach

The 24-year-old, reported to be visiting from Massachusetts, was seen walking along a Big Island beach on Saturday

The Coast Guard is searching for a man, reported to be visiting from Massachusetts, who went missing from a beach in Hawaii. 

The 24-year-old man was last seen walking along Papakolea Green Sand Beach on the Big Island, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

The extensive search along the coast includes Coast Guard, Navy and fire department helicopter crews.

“We are currently searching for a 24-year-old male who is reported to be visiting from Massachusetts,” said Charles Turner, a command duty officer.

The man was wearing black board shorts, the Coast Guard said. His belongings were left on the beach.

On Saturday evening, the Hawaii County Fire Department was notified by a good Samaritan of the man’s disappearance. The fire department then contacted the Coast Guard.

Officials have launched an extensive search along the Big Island coast which includes Coast Guard, Navy and fire department helicopter crews. 

Authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the man's whereabouts to call 808-842-2600.
