MBTA Orange Line Maintenance Begins Friday Night

During the work, shuttle buses will be offered to commuters

If you use the MBTA's Orange Line on weekends, plan on disruptions at certain stations until mid-November.

Starting Friday night at 8:45 p.m., shuttle buses will replace Orange Line service on six weekends in October and November as part of the Capital Acceleration Plan, according to the MBTA. The first stations affected will be between Sullivan Square and Tufts Medical Center.

The T plans to also conduct work on some weeknights and weekends through December at Oak Grove, Malden Center and Wellington in order to "keep the tracks in good repair."

Part of the MBTA's $8 billion, 5-year capital investment plan includes renovating stations, replacing 2,000 rail ties, replacing 4,000 feet of rail, making sure tracks are level and secure, and surfacing and lining work.

Those also improvements include work at the stops on that line, including Downtown Crossing, Haymarket and State Street. The MBTA is replacing signage there cleaning and painting. Workers will also replace over 2,000 feet of track near the Chinatown station and they’re completely replacing decades old pit track in some of the stations.

The T says if you’re traveling downtown or northbound, take the green line instead.

MBTA officials says by shutting down service over these next six weekends they can get the work done a year quicker.
