Mild Mid-October Weekend, Chance for Showers At Times

After a dose of frost early Friday morning for most of New England, a warm-up is to the rescue this weekend if the frigid conditions were a shock to the system. We will continue to see rollercoaster temperatures this weekend and stretching into the next work week.

Today, clouds stick around for most of the day, but that will not inhibit the temperatures from springing to near 70. A few showers are expected into CT, RI, Southeast MA, the Cape and the Islands through the middle of the afternoon before they eventually pull off the coastline by dinner time. Some showers could be heavy at times. Besides a quick pop-up sprinkle, tonight will be mostly dry under mostly cloudy skies. Sunday brings clouds to start, the wind will start to pick up with gusts nearing 30mph at times. We could see some breaks of sunshine by the afternoon, which will allow the temperatures to warm-up, along with the humidity. Highs on Sunday could reach close to record-territory for some. Highs are expected to creep to near 80 for most of southern New England, 70s in the north. If we tap into more sunshine, we will likely see a few more 80-degree highs on the map.

A cold front from the west will bring an end to another unseasonably warm day as the cool Canadian air clashes with the warm, humid airmass that overtakes our area Sunday. Where these airmasses line up is where we’ll see a line of showers, thunder cannot be ruled out late Sunday into early Monday. This line is expected line to sweep in after 7 p.m. and cross New England from northwest to southeast. The cold front sweeps out to sea by Monday, bringing us back to seasonable conditions with highs in the 60s under mostly sunny skies. Tuesday will be coolest day out of the next 10-days with highs in the low to mid-50s in the south, and near 50 in the north. A quiet fall-like weather pattern sets up for the rest of the work week with highs into the mid to upper 60s, 70s possibly returning by next weekend.
