Strong Downpour Slides Through New England Before Heat Wave

A batch of torrential rain continues to slide through New England Thursday, dumping a quick 1 to 2 inches in many spots. A few towns are seeing even more, creating localized street flooding. This is actually needed rain since it has been dry lately.

The rain will become less widespread Thursday afternoon, but it stays very humid, and there will still be pop up showers or a thunderstorm from time to time. The vast majority of this will wind down around sunset.

The story then becomes major heat Friday, through the weekend, and into the week of July 4th. Highs will regularly surge into the 90s inland. When you combine the humidity it will feel like 100 degrees at times.

The relative relief will be found over Cape Cod and the Islands, where temperatures will mainly be in the 80s.

Rain chances will be minimal Friday into next week, too, with just a few spot storms from time to time.
