Mitt Romney Says He Won't Run for President

Former GOP nominee Mitt Romney told close supporters on a conference call on Friday that he will not run for president, saying that he wants to allow other leaders in the party to step forward, NBC News reported. Romney's confidantes had received an email asking them to join the potential candidate by phone Friday morning to discuss his 2016 plans. He held two teleconferences to discuss the decision. Radio host Hugh Hewitt also posted the Romney's prepared remarks for the teleconference announcing the decision on his web site. The former Massachusetts governor lost his 2008 bid for the Republican presidential nomination to Sen. John McCain, and ran unsuccessfully against President Barack Obama in 2012.
