New Britain Considers Plastic Bag Ban

New Britain is considering a ban on plastic bags.

The city's common council passed an ordinance Wednesday night that bans retailers from providing or selling single-use plastic bags.

The ordinance would also ban paper bags unless they are recycled or recyclable and calls for recyclable bags to be offered for 10-cents each.

New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart reached out to residents through her Facebook page to see how they feel about the plan and ask if people think she should sign the bill.

If the ordinance passes, stores could face fines of up to $250 after multiple violations.

The New Britain Common Council passed an ordinance that would ban plastic bags. Mayor Erin Stewart still needs to sign off on the ordinance.
