The first major winter storm of 2019 is expected to make its way across the Midwest into New England this weekend, bringing double-digit snow accumulations and high winds.
Forecasters say the storm will begin Saturday night, with the heaviest snow hitting southern New England overnight and into Sunday.
Greater Boston is expected to receive about 6 to 9 inches of snow, while areas outside the city could see anywhere from 1 to 2 feet.
The City of Boston set up a page for snow-related resources and information.
In central Massachusetts, residents began flocking to hardware stores on Friday to prepare for the storm by stocking up on essential supplies like salt shovels and ice melting products.
"My God. They're saying it's going to be a mixed bag, so we need to be careful of our sidewalks. Particularly in Worcester," resident Gloria Beaudry said.

The city is expected to get up to a foot of snow during the storm starting Saturday night and continuing into Sunday.
Ishmael Turkson bought piles of salt for Good Shepard Methodist Church. He is hoping they can still have Sunday service.
"We're going to spend it right now and then we wait for the snow," Turkson said.
For hardware store owners, snow storms often mean more business.
"I think today is going to be really busy," said Liz Gervais, who owns Grafton Square True Value Hardware and Paint on Hamilton Street in Worcester. "It started out busy. And tomorrow is going to be very busy."
Gervais said customers should get their supplies soon because they sell out fast.
"They start checking on their supplies of ice melter and salt and sand and car scrapers," she said. "People sometimes forget to get car scrapers."
Because the storm may bring down utility poles and trees, Eversource said they have crews on standby with extra utility poles and transformers ready to go.
