Woman Still Shaken Up After North Attleboro Carjacking as New Surveillance Images Released of Suspect

Police have released new surveillance images of a suspect in the armed carjacking of a popular local business owner last week. The three surveillance images show the suspect and a vehicle that dropped him off just prior to the carjacking.

"They got surveillance, that's terrific," said Mary Winslow, a customer of Briggs Nursery in North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

Barbara Briggs, who owns Briggs Nursery next door to her home, had just returned from the grocery store on Nov. 20 when her husband said a man demanded her black Jeep SUV while she was in the driveway of their home on Kelley Boulevard.

Briggs was not hurt in the carjacking, but the 78-year-old talked to NBC Boston off camera on Monday and said she is still shaken up by what happened.

Briggs said she can't imagine something like this happening just feet from her front door.

"I was right there 20 feet away," her husband, Paul Briggs, said. "I just drove in when it happened and I saw him drive out."

The suspect is described as being tall and thing, wearing dark colored clothing with a mustache or goatee.

Detectives say he threatened the grandmother with a gun and a knife when she tried to fight back. The man then fled in her Jeep.

Briggs' vehicle was found abandoned a short distance away near the intersection of Stobbs and Holcott drives. After recovering the SUV, police launched an intense manhunt in an effort to find the suspect but were unable to locate him.

Even though police have identified the drop off and getaway car and released surveillance images of the carjacker, residents and customers at the Briggs family-owned nursery are still not at ease this holiday season.

"Especially at this time, it's horrible. Especially Christmas, Thanksgiving, all the holidays coming," Jeanine Roubian said.

Authorities are hoping someone will recognize the suspect in the surveillance images and contact police.

He was dropped off in an older model, likely 1993-1998 range, red Jeep Grand Cherokee with a damaged front passenger side hubcap. A witness also saw the same vehicle pick up the suspect where the stolen SUV was dumped near Bishop Feehan High School.

Anyone with information is asked to call North Attleboro Detective Rick McQuade or Captain Joseph DiRenzo at 508-695-1212.
