A 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the face in the same shooting that left a mother of three injured in New Hampshire on Tuesday, according to authorities.
Manchester police said after they responded to the shooting of 42-year-old Mariela Maria, they found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. As the investigation developed, officials learned the boy was a missing person from New York.
Police said the teen was shot in the same shooting as Maria on Ahern Street. The incident happened at about 3 p.m. as she was leaving her apartment, according to police.
"I opened the door, I saw the kid running, so I stand here, look over there because I was going to my car, and yeah, too late, I was shot," Mariella Maria said on Wednesday.
The bullet that hit Maria missed all major organs, and she returned home to her family within a few hours.
Maria described the gunman as a tall man who she did not recognize. She told police she saw the assailant holding a gun and a second male running away.
Both of the shooting victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The teen was taken into custody by police to wait for a family member to pick him up.

Authorities do not believe that Maria was the intended target.
“Police are taking this so seriously because she shouldn’t have been caught in crossfire,” Manchester police spokesperson Heather Hamel said. “Whoever is responsible needs to be brought to justice.”
The gunman remains on the loose and authorities are still trying to determine his identity. Police said they don't believe there is any danger to the public.
