New Hampshire lawmakers are pushing back against Gov. Chris Sununu's plan to end paying school aid from the education trust fund.
New Hampshire Public Radio reports Sununu is proposing to pay school aid out of the general fund as part of his budget proposal.
The education trust fund was created as part of a revamp of how the state pays for public schools in response to Supreme Court rulings.
The governor's legal counsel John Formella says using the general fund for school aid will be a "difficult sell," but it makes more sense.
Sununu is also proposing taking about $63 million from the trust fund and directing it toward school building projects as part of his budget.
