Norovirus Sickens Dozens of Palm Beach County Students

More than 180 students were absent Monday, and more than 250 students called out sick Friday.

Norovirus at a South Florida elementary students has caused more than 200 students to miss class, officials said.

Since Wednesday, at least 100 children a day have been out sick at Citrus Grove Elementary School in Boynton Beach, according to Florida Department of Health spokesman Timothy O'Conner.

More than 180 students were absent Monday, and more than 250 students called out sick Friday.

Palm Beach County School District spokeswoman Kathy Burstein told the South Florida Sun Sentinel most students are staying home sick but a handful have been sent home after experiencing symptoms similar to those of norovirus.

Norovirus is a gastrointestinal illness that causes diarrhea, vomiting and stomach cramps.
