Officer Identified in Fatal Belmont, NH Shooting

Corporal Evan Boulanger of the Belmont Police Department shot and killed Joseph Mazzitelli on Saturday.

On Wednesday, the New Hampshire Attorney General's office named Evan Boulanger as the officer who shot and killed Joseph Mazzitelli outside of a gas station in Belmont, New Hampshire, on Saturday.

Boulanger, a Belmont police corporal, pulled into the Irving gas station on Plummer Hill Road just before 3 p.m. on Saturday, when he recognized Mazzitelli, 46, as the subject of several outstanding warrants, according to Attorney General Gordon MacDonald.

When confronted by Boulanger, Mazzitelli drew a firearm. At that point, Boulanger fired once at Mazzitelli, who was subsequently pronounced dead at Lakes General Hospital.

Boulanger has been with the Belmont Police Department for nine years. He was been placed on administrative leave after Saturday's incident.

Belmont police are currently conducting an investigation into whether the use of deadly force was justified.
