Police: 1 Dead Following High Speed Chase

Authorities say the driver tried to elude Sutton police

A Worcester man was pronounced dead Monday morning after a high speed chase with police in Massachusetts ended in a multi-car crash.

Around 7 a.m., a Sutton police officer attempted to pull over a Ford F-150 for a routine traffic violation. The driver of the Ford, 54-year-old James Drake, sped around the corner of Whitins Road and led the officer on a high speed chase through town.

After driving about a mile from the spot of the initial traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle crashed head-on into two other vehicles.

The drivers of the other vehicles suffered minor injuries from the crash and sought medical attention.

The driver of the Ford pickup was pronounced dead at the scene. No name has been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
