Man Shot and Killed in Waterbury After Fight, Car Chase

A 25-year-old man who was found dead in Waterbury on Monday night was shot in the head after a fight that led to a car chase and a crash, according to police.

Police were responding to Lounsbury Street just after 6 p.m. to investigate a hit-and-run in the area of 109 Lounsbury Street when more reports started coming in about a shooting near 48 Lounsbury St., police said.

When officers responded to that scene, they found Corey Dawson, 25, in the driveway. He’d been shot in the left temple, police said.

Investigators found several shell casings on the sidewalk and they learned that Dawson had been involved in a fight with a group of men who got into their vehicles after that fight and started chasing each other until crashing at Lounsbury Street and South View.

With both vehicles disabled , the people got out of the cars and one person fired at least three times at Dawson, who was struck once in the head, police said.

Waterbury Police are investigating and ask anyone with information to report it to police.
