Parachutist Dies After Colliding With Barn Over the Weekend

A parachutist injured in an accident over the weekend in western Massachusetts has died.

The woman was parachuting in Orange, Massachusetts on Saturday when she veered off course and collided with a barn on South Main Street, suffering serious injuries, according to the Northwestern District Attorney's Office.

She was taken to Athol Memorial Hospital and later transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

She died Monday at the hospital.

The victim was identified Wednesday as 27-year-old Alexis Zayas of Long Island, New York.

The matter remains under investigation by Orange Police and the district attorney's office.
