With the recent frigid temperatures around New England this week, Sunday's game between the Patriots and New York Jets has the chance to be the coldest game in Foxboro since 2004. With that in mind, the team has some suggestions and some tips for those who will be braving the elements.
1) Stay Warm!: After seeing the forecast for the week, the Patriots have ordered 65,000 hand warmers that they will pass out to fans as they enter Gillette Stadium. Also, you will want to cover any exposed skin and wear several layers of clothing.
2) Blanket Coverage: That's not just a term for the Patriots defense. Fans will be able to bring in blankets to the stadium for extra warmth. If you do bring a blanket, you are asked to have it draped over your arm as you enter Gillette so security can inspect them. Once the game is over, you will also have the chance to help the less fortunate stay warm in the elements by donating your blanket. Bins will be positioned at the end of the game if people would like to leave their blankets. The Patriots Foundation will take those blankets, clean them, and then distribute them to shelters that provide blankets to the homeless.
3) Flag on the play!: The Patriots are reminding fans of their clear bag policy. You can find more on their website at GilletteStadium.com/bagpolicy. The team is also reminding people that they can not bring in battery powered coats. If you are looking for a bit of "liquid warmth", fans should be aware that any outside alcoholic beverages are not permitted inside Gillette.
4) The History: Tomorrow has the chance to be the coldest regular season game in franchise history. The current record is 14 degrees in a game against the Miami Dolphins in 1977. The Patriots won that game 14-10. In fact, the Patriots are 6-1 in games when the temps have been in the teens and are undefeated at home during those games.
