What to Know

  • Police say a 21-year-old Mansfield man who threw beer at the Chiefs' Tyreek Hill at Sunday's Patriots game is now facing multiple charges.
  • The Patriots announced earlier in the day that the fan will be banned from all future events at Gillette Stadium.
  • The incident occurred in the 4th quarter of Sunday's game, after Hill scored his third touchdown of the game to tie the score at 40-40.

Police say a man who threw beer at Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill at Sunday's New England Patriots game is now facing multiple charges.

Foxboro police said they were able to identify the man who threw the beer using surveillance video. He will be issued a summons for disorderly conduct and throwing an object at a sporting event.

Police did not release the man's name, saying only that he is a 21-year-old from Mansfield.

"It doesn't happen often, you know, fortunately," said Foxboro Police Chief William Baker. "A very small number of people misbehave at these sporting events, and we try to hold the people who do misbehave responsible for their conduct."

The Patriots had announced earlier in the day that the fan will be banned from all future events at Gillette Stadium.

"Gillette Stadium security has identified the fan who violated the fan code of conduct by tossing beer onto a player during the game last night," the team announced Monday on Twitter. "The matter has been turned over to local law enforcement and the fan will be sent a letter of disinvite to all future events at Gillette Stadium."

Patriots players spoke out Monday against disruptive behavior by fans.

"When you come to the game, certainly, we appreciate you being rowdy, we appreciate the support. But there's a line that you ... should not cross," said special teams captain Matthew Slater. "Obviously, throwing beer on someone is unacceptable."

"That's just a little bit too crazy. I mean, us players out there competing, trying to be the best we can be out there," agreed tight end Rob Gronkowski. "It's just a little bit too much, I would say."

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of New England's 43-40 win over the Chiefs.

New England and Kansas City put up an incredible amount of points Sunday as they faced off at Gillette Stadium. Ultimately, the Pats were victorious with a 43-40 score against the Chiefs, but was it enough to give the Patriots a shot at a home field advantage for the playoffs?

Hill, who had already scored two touchdowns on the night, caught a pass from quarterback Patrick Mahomes with just over three minutes remaining in the game and scored a 75-yard touchdown. As he reached the south end zone, Pats fans in the front row gave him the middle finger and tossed a beer at him.

The Chiefs player ignored the fans' gestures and continued on, according to a Boston.com report.

Hill wasn't the only member of the Chiefs organization who had a run-in with unruly Patriots fans on Sunday night.

The executive producer of the Chiefs' radio network said on Twitter that some fans stole some of his equipment from their booth.

"Seriously, they have become the worst fans in the league," Dan Israel said. He said it's "a matter of time" until something serious happens.
