Patriots' Rex Burkhead Addresses Season-Ending Knee Injury on Social Media

Rex Burkhead broke the news Patriots fans feared Tuesday.

The New England running back confirmed he'll miss the rest of the season with a knee injury he suffered Sunday against the Houston Texans.

Burkhead looked ahead to the 2021 season in posts to Twitter and Instagram after suffering what the Patriots reportedly feared was a torn ACL.

"Appreciate the support and all that have reached out the past couple of days," Burkhead wrote on Instagram. "Look forward to attacking the process and coming back better than ever in 2021."

Several of Burkhead's teammates, including fullback Jakob Johnson and tight end Matt LaCosse, sent the running back well wishes in the comments of his Instagram post.

Burkhead had been playing well as the Patriots' change-of-pace back behind Damien Harris and scored four total touchdowns (one rushing, three receiving) in the two games prior to his injury.

Patriots quarterback Cam Newton called Burkhead's injury "extremely devastating," as New England now will turn to James White and Sony Michel -- who was activated from injured reserve over the weekend but didn't play against the Texans -- to fill the versatile running back's void.
