Pickup Truck Driver Trapped in Crash With School Bus

Crews had to use the Jaws of Life to free a man from a pickup truck after a crash with a school bus carrying 30 children in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Fire officials said the crash happened around 7:20 p.m. on the ramp between Interstate 293 southbound and Interstate 93 southbound. The pickup truck driver's legs were pinned under his dashboard and responders spent about 20 minutes removing him from the vehicle.

The driver's injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Thirty children, two coaches and a driver were on the bus. Two of them were bruised, but they were not taken to a hospital.

Another bus came to bring the children back to their school.

Fire officials praised the bus driver for managing to keep the vehicle upright and on the road.

"If she were not able to control this bus, injuries to the students could have been much more severe considering the road conditions and the volume of traffic," Manchester District Fire Chief Mike Gamache said in a statement.
