Police Capture Fugitive Murder Suspect Who Tried to Escape Out Hotel Window: Hartford PD

Hartford police arrested a fugitive suspect in a December murder after a brief struggle and attempted escape out a hotel window

Zachary Alexander, 25, is charged in connection with the shooting death of Edison Burge, 22

Police found the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds around 4:19 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12 when they responded to reports of a shooting at 20 Griswold Street.

Burge was transported to Hartford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:57 p.m., police said.

Major crimes and crime scene detectives oversaw the investigation and they identified Alexander as a suspect and obtained a warrant that set his bond at $1 million.

Officers couldn't immediately locate him and said he was on the run from law enforcement since the shooting.

Hartford police, special operations and shooting task force officers, a U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force and Vernon Police Department responded to the Days Inn at 451 Hartford Turnpike on Friday, Jan. 22 after learning Alexander might be staying there.

They located him and took him into custody after he struggled and tried to escape out the window of his hotel room, police said.

Hartford police charged him with murder, criminal possession of a firearm and sale of narcotics.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Hartford Superior Court on Monday at 9:30 a.m.
