Driver Flees After Police Chase Through 3 Towns

The driver backed into a fence before hitting two police cruisers.

A police chase started in Hartford and went through Newington and New Britain before police called it off.

The incident started in Hartford at 7:23 a.m. when patrol officers saw a black 2016 Mercedes C230 behind 121 Martin St. back into a parking space with its headlights on. When police checked on the car, they determined it had been reported stolen.

The person in the driver’s seat was asleep and suddenly woke up, then backed up and hit a fence, police said.

Then he put the car in drive and hit one police cruiser twice, then struck another cruiser as he drove off, police said.

Officers chased the driver from Hartford to Newington and then to New Britain before ending the chase near Route 9 in New Britain.
