Police: Suspect Who Shot at NH Police in Custody

The suspect police said shot at a police officer during a traffic stop is in custody.

At 1:50 a.m., the suspect fired shots at a Rochester police officer who tried to pull over a car. The driver of the car pulled onto Periwinkle Drive, then ran into the woods, according to police. Police hoped that the daylight would make it easier to find the alleged shooter.

Police are searching the area for the suspect, and the Strafford County SWAT team is on scene to help, as well as a helicopter. Police asked for residents in the area to remain in their homes, but that has since been lifted. Police were still on scene as of 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

The officer was not hit by any of the gunshots.
