2 Brothers Shot, 1 Killed Outside Back Bay Restaurant

Boston police are investigating after two brothers were shot outside a restaurant in the Back Bay Saturday night.

The shooting happened outside Whiskey's bar and grill on Gloucester Street, near Boylston, around 9:30 p.m.

According to Lauren Berg, manager of Whiskey's, the men were enjoying Saturday night's football game before they stepped outside.

Police say both victims were shot when they were sitting in a car. They were both taken to a hospital, where one of them died. The second victim is expected to live.

The victims' mother came to the scene to see where her sons were shot Sunday afternoon.

"It hurts," said Judy Bannister. "I really don't want to look at it."

Bannister said her son, 25-year-old Jamal Bannister, was killed in the shooting.

"My son right now he will never see his first child being born and that hurts me more than anything in my life," she said.

"Very strange he’s in there buying a drink at one minute and then all of a sudden he’s not," said Berg.

"Seeing somebody be pulled out of a car not breathing puts life in perspective for you," said Max Billig, who was working during the shooting.

Neighbors are shocked.

"I think it's pretty surprising, nothing like this usually happens in this area, it's pretty calm," said one neighbor. "I wasn't expecting this."

"Newbury Street and Gloucester Street? Yeah, you just don't expect that in this part of town," said another neighbor.

Police say the incident does not appear to be random and they are continuing to investigate.

"I want justice," said Bannister. "I’m going to be in court every day to see what happened to these people that did this to my son."

They are reviewing footage from the bar's surveillance cameras and are asking anyone with information to call them.
