Westport police say their officers were attacked when they tried to approach a man spotted walking in nothing but his underwear on Post Road Friday.
Police said they responded to a call for a male in his underwear without shoes walking on Post Road East around 10:30 a.m. Officers spotted the man on Myrtle Avenue near Church Lane. According to police, when officers tried to speak with the man, he hit an officer in the face. During the struggle that followed, an officer was bitten, police said.
The suspect was eventually taken into custody and brought to the hopsital for evaluation. He faces charges of assault of public safety personnel and breach of peace. He has not been publicly identified at this time.
