Police: Puppy Stabbed 3 Times During Middleton, New Hampshire House Break

Jax, a 4-month-old black Labrador, underwent surgery and is expected to recover

Police in New Hampshire say a 4-month-old puppy was stabbed three times during a break-in at a local home.

Foster's Daily Democrat reports police said no one was home during the burglary on Thursday in Middleton. When the residents came home, they found the black Labrador puppy, named Jax, with stab wounds to his chest and abdomen.

"No idea why anyone would want to stab a puppy," Middleton Police Officer Mike McNeil told Foster's.

Police said Jax was taken to an emergency veterinarian in Portsmouth, where he underwent surgery. They said the owners reported that surgery went well and it appears the puppy will recover.

"He came in last night for puncture wounds," Andrea Dube, a supervisor at the Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital, said Friday. "He's in good spirits, taking it day by day, is in very stable condition and getting lots of love."

The dog's owner declined to be interviewed by the newspaper.

The investigation is ongoing, and police wouldn't say what items were taken during the burglary.

Area homeowners are being urged to lock their doors and secure their property. Anyone with information is asked to call Middleton police at 603-473-8548 or email m.mcneil@middletonnh.gov.
