Police are investigating a shooting in downtown Norwich Thursday that sent two people to the hospital.
The shooting happened around 11:30 a.m. at the traffic circle in the area of Franklin and Main streets, police said, and two victims were transported to Backus Hospital.
Police said the suspect and the victims began fighting which then led to the shooting.
Officers were able to take the suspect into custody on Oak Street a short time later.

Police identified the suspect as 18-year-old Jamel Pires, of Norwich. He is charged with criminal attempted murder, first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, unlawful discharge of a firearm, possession of a pistol without a permit, and criminal use of a firearm.
The courthouse was locked down at one point, but the lockdown was lifted.

The two victims were treated at the hospital and later released, according to police.
