Police: RI Candidates for Gov., AG Arrested With 48 Pounds of Marijuana

A Rhode Island gubernatorial candidate has been arrested, allegedly with 48 pounds of illegal pot.

State police arrested Compassion Party candidate Anne Armstrong on Thursday, along with the party's attorney general candidate, Alan Gordon. They didn't enter a plea during a court appearance and were held on $25,000 bail.

Police said they received a complaint of a strong marijuana odor at the couple's home, and found illegal plants, as well as a 15-year-old child in the house. They're also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Armstrong sent a tweet from what appeared to be the back of a police cruiser, saying she was arrested "again" for cannabis and calling the incident an "atrocity."

The pair run a church that considers cannabis healing. They believe the term "marijuana" is pejorative.
