Police Search for Man Accused of Carjacking Taxi

The suspect allegedly carjacked a taxi cab after stealing merchandise from a DICK's Sporting Goods

A taxi driver in Saugus, Massachusetts was held at gunpoint and had his cab stolen on Sunday night by a suspected shoplifter making a getaway.

Now police are actively searching for the man who carjacked the taxi.

Saugus Police received a 911 call just before 7 p.m. on Sunday from a DICK'S Sporting Goods on Broadway. The caller reported that a male had fled the store, possibly carrying merchandise.

Jose Antonio Grullon, a driver at Garcia's Taxi, says he picked up the subject earlier that night. The man asked Grullon to take him to the DICK's in the Square One Mall, and then asked him to wait outside.

When the man returned carrying three jackets, Grullon locked the doors to his car. The man took out a gun. 

According to police, the suspect approached Grullon's gray Ford Fusion Taxicab, broke the driver's side window and tossed Grullon onto the street. When Grullon regained his senses, his cab was gone.

The vehicle was last seen driving off in the direction of Essex Street. Its license plate number is 412C.

The suspect is described as being a male in his 30s. He was last seen wearing a black hat and jacket.
