Surveillance footage obtained by NBC10 Boston appears to show a suspect in an attempted car theft speed down a street in Boston with the vehicle's owner clinging to the hood.
Witnesses told police the suspect jumped into the car on Massachusetts Avenue near Boston Symphony Hall Monday night, before driving away and crashing moments later. Police said owner of the vehicle, who jumped on the hood, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The surveillance video shows a man walking toward a building on Mass. Ave. before turning and sprinting toward the street. The man jumps onto a car as it accelerates and turns down a nearby street.
"I jerked around in time to literally see the man flying through the air," said witness Eric Buckley. "He smashed on the ground."
Buckley said he ran to help the injured man, who he said was dazed and bleeding.
"I put my bags down and ran up. He was trying to stagger to his feet," Buckley said.
Boston police said earlier it had responded to the area of 200 Saint Botolph St. at around 7:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a crash involving a pedestrian. A witness said she saw a car speeding in the area before crashing into three cars.

A man told police he had parked his car in the area of 333 Massachusetts Ave. and got out to remove something from the trunk when the suspect jumped inside and locked the doors.
The suspect allegedly began driving away, at which point the owner said he jumped on the hood. The suspect allegedly began to swerve as he drove on Mass. Ave. before crashing on Saint Botolph Street.
Police described the suspect as a black male with a beard who is around 6 feet tall and around 250 pounds.
The investigation is ongoing.
